Restored Speakers with 3D Printed Base
Infinity WTLC Speakers owned by customer

Customer approached us with 50 year old speakers that were fairly intact except for the particle board base which had over the years suffered rotting and damage. With the dimensions and request to keep as much of the original sound possible we printed the base with variable densities.

Modeled Base

The reason being that the speakers are about 40lbs each so there needed to be strength and a uniform sound deflection. Doing 100% infill would waste a lot of material and not necessarily improve sound quality as it would act as dead weight and if there is void in the printing then this would be noticeable.

Therefore we made parts of the conical center shape higher density while the back of the fixture less so.

Printed Base of Speaker Base

The result was a nice uniform print out of Black PETG and we look forward to posting pictures of the full assembly with the speakers soon.

Would be interesting to hear the difference in bass on a 3d printed base vs a wooden one. Does the resonance change?
