Example of an Art Deco Lamp

Art Deco furniture, architecture, and art reached its height during the 1920s to early 1940s but unfortunately the extravagance and beauty of the time period was replaced with brutalism. Therefore its become difficult and expensive to replace parts or complete sets that are one of a kind.

An aficionado of Art Deco reached out if we could bring to life a bar lamp shade they had found in a family members basement. Only parts and pieces were still intact and the idea was always to use LEDs instead of fluorescent bulbs, so the client was open to 3D printing and painting the end caps that were missing.

We recreated the designs from left over components and matched the dimensions and then created a custom spring fixture to be able to keep the lamp shade in place.

To make the end covers functional so that one can slide the cover over the light strip from one end and fit it into the other end cap, a spring mechanism was added to the center of one of the ends so that the cover can be pushed against a plate and then secured into the other end cap. Heat set inserts were used as well as basic compression springs to achieve this at extremely affordable cost with added adjustability by being able to replace springs and screw lengths for different compression force amounts.

This is a work in progress but within the span of a few hours we had a work prototype and it is now ready for painting. Let us know if we can help you by reaching out to us at fabrigator.us@gmail.com.
