Customer approached with a custom design and print request for their reptile enclosure as they were redesigning their system. The need was for a component that can replace the hole that would be left when replacing the sensor. Criteria included white or transparent material that is able to hold the environmental conditions within the terrarium (heat and humidity).

We worked on the concept that this would need a multi material solution to both provide a hermetic seal and be able to withstand relatively high temperatures.

Selecting TPU for the gasket between the face of the tank and the plug was straight forward as well as selecting PETG for the main body of the plug. To get a proper seal though, the gasket needs to be compressed against the two faces.

To create compression with the ability to adjust to the thickness of the wall of different terrariums we designed around a heat set insert and bolt to screw the female into the male half.

The customer said the fit was perfect and ordered additional ones for their other tanks. If you are interested about getting some for yourself, please contact us at fabrigator.us@gmail.com.
